Cheer Ltd. Awards Top Honors
(Fayetteville, NC) Cheer Ltd.'s annual awards were handed out last week in Fayetteville, NC at the 24th annual National Cheer Conference. Shelley Smith of Winston-Salem, NC was the recipient of the 2007-2008 National Cheerleader of the Year title and scholarship. Shelley is currently a cheerleader for Ledford High School. Runner-up, also receiving a scholarship, was Adair County High School cheerleader Miriam Vanarsdale of Columbia, KY.
A coach for over twenty years, Josephine Ivey of Riverview High School in Sarasota, FL was named the 2007-2008 National Coach of the Year. Receiving the title of National Allstar Program of the Year was Storm Allstar Cheerleading, coached by Shannon Smith, of Sanford, NC. Hanford High School, coached by Kim Mayer, from Hanford, WA, was the recipient of the National Traditional Team of the Year title. In an effort this year to recognize the growing trend of competition-only scholastic teams, Cheer Ltd. awarded the title of National Competitive Team of the Year to Duluth High School, of Duluth, GA. Duluth High School is coached by Kelly Halcomb and Lindsay Martin.
