CHEERLEADER SHOWS MORE THAN SPIRIT

(Fayetteville, NC) – Shanicia Boston, a senior cheerleader at Pine Forest High School as well as the Cheer Dynamics Allstars in Fayetteville, took her spirit to a new level recently.

After competing for Cheer Dynamics in the 2006 Cheer Ltd. Nationals at Canam individual competition, Shanicia placed third and was awarded a prize of 0.00 in addition to the trophy and medal she received. Upon her return, Shanicia was notified that in order to maintain her amateur status and athletic eligibility as a varsity cheerleader for her high school, she would need to decline the prize money.

Rather than simply return the prize money she’d received, Cheer Ltd. president Gwen Holtsclaw offered Shanicia another option - to donate the monies to a charitable organization.

“Shanicia loved the idea of our donating her prize money to a charity of her choice,” says Holtsclaw. “She spent a month researching various charitable organizations before making her choice.”

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) has now become the recipient of Shanicia’s hard-earned championship monies. The IRC brings lifesaving aid to refugees and those displaced by conflict, oppression or natural disaster. Thanks to Shanicia’s cheerleading skills and generosity, the IRC has received yet another much needed donation to aid in their cause.
