NEW CHEERLEADING COUNCIL LAUNCHES NATIONAL CURRICULUM
The National Council for Spirit Safety and Education (NCSSE) announces the successful launch of their four-course curriculum for cheerleading coaches. According to NCSSE executive director Debbie Bracewell, state directors are currently scheduling courses and training certifiers throughout the country in targeted areas.
"The response to NCSSE and its commitment to provide expanded opportunities for the professional training of cheerleading coaches is overwhelming," says Bracewell. "Because so many cheerleading coaches are professional educators themselves, they are particularly excited about our determination to give cheer coaches more training in safety, coaching methods, sports psychology, and comprehensive skill development."
For NCSSE, says Bracewell, it's all about the end result-stronger, safer cheerleading programs throughout the nation's high schools, colleges, and middle schools as well as all-star programs. A secondary benefit will be a significant decrease in the turnover of cheer coaches which, according to Bracewell, is a major problem in the industry.
Founding corporate members of NCSSE (NCA, COA, Cheer Ltd, AmeriCheer, and UPA) are being joined quickly by other cheerleading companies in these efforts. The national NCSSE membership drive strives to promote inclusion of all elements of the cheerleading industry in hopes of providing the diversity that will establish strong industry standards in safety and competition.
"Forging an alliance of industry leadership has required that companies look beyond our corporate differences while focusing on our shared concerns," states Bracewell. "I cannot think of a better group to meet this challenge."
Plans call for additional NCSSE projects and positions currently in development.
