CHEER LTD NAMED TOP BUSINESS IN THE STATE

Think the competition and judging are tough at cheerleading championships? Imagine “competing” against thriving businesses from all across North Carolina. Picture being judged by a panel of top business experts. Cheer Ltd did it! And came out on top, winning BUSINESS NORTH CAROLINA magazine’s Small Business of the Year award.

The December issue of the magazine features Cheer Ltd, along with the two runners-up. The article calls Cheer Ltd founder Gwen Holtsclaw a “cheerleader for cheerleading” and says, “She built her business around the premise that cheerleading is as much a sport as women’s soccer or cross country.” Debunking the “fluff” image that some may still harbor about our sport, Gwen says, “These girls have steel abs and run six-minute miles."

What made Cheer Ltd this year’s top pick? According to BUSINESS NORTH CAROLINA, a major reason was Gwen’s passion for cheerleading and for her business.

The article chronicles the rise in cheerleading’s popularity, as evidenced by the fact that when Gwen started Cheer Ltd, there were few cheer companies. Now, there are more than 150. “There are really only five companies that are considered top tier, and we’re blessed to be in the top five,” says Gwen.
