NATIONAL CHEERLEADER OF THE YEAR

This National Cheerleader of the Year Scholarship Competition (NCYSC) is currently in the audition phase for 2012. If you have a cheerleader that is a current Junior or Senior in High School (2011-12 school year) with a minimum 2.5 GPA with outstanding leadership skills, exemplary community service, and has top-level talent, then please direct them to the audition form and information.

The process has changed this year. Nominations are not being accepted. As a coach/administrator, you will now be required to complete your portion of the endorsement form required by a cheerleader candidate in order to audition for the National Cheerleader of the Year Scholarship Competition.

The following information should assist you as you are planning for your participation in this scholarship competition.

• There will be two separate scholarships given in 2012 - one cheerleader representing a scholastic cheer team and one representing an all star cheer team.
• Two scholarships will be awarded. Scholarship amounts will start at $ 2500. (Audition fees will build the scholarship fund; Cheer Ltd will guarantee 00 for each scholastic and all star recipient)
• The NCYSC will consist of Three Stages:
  • Stage I - Audition
  • Stage II - National Selection Committee Confirmation, Phone Interview, and Selection of Finalists
  • Stage III - Finals (June 16-17, 2012 in Fayetteville, NC)
• A cheerleader may only represent one team; they must choose which to represent if they compete on both at the time of the audition and may not change throughout the course of the competition. Exception: If a cheerleader has audition and no longer cheers on the team he/she originally represented, he/she may petition to the National Selection Committee to re-audition and change his/her representation (all star or scholastic).
• Live auditions are scheduled throughout Cheer Ltd's competition season in conjunction with competitive events in NC, NY, IN, OK, VA, TN, KY, and PA. We'll also be having auditions on Friday of Cheer Ltd Nationals at CANAM in Myrtle Beach, SC (March 16, 2012). see complete list below
• The audition phase is a three-step process:
  • 1) Complete the Audition Intent Form (below)
  • 2) Complete the Audition Forms (2 pages) and bring to the Live Audition along with a headshot (5" x7" max) and $ 30 cash or check (made out to Cheer Ltd. with your name noted on the check)
  • 3) Perform a :45 - 1:00 min routine as per the guidelines in the Audition Information
• Those who are accepted into the National Cheerleader Scholarship Competition will be officially announced at the conclusion of the audition / event. More details will be provided in an email confirmation after we receive your Audition Intent Form and the day of the Audition at registration.
• Pre-qualification includes: Current High School Junior or Senior; Minimum 2.5 Cumulative GPA (unweighted; 4.0 scale); Exemplary leadership, community service, academic achievement, and athletic ability; Minimum 2 years cheer experience.
• If a cheerleader is unable to attend a Live Audtion (schedule conflict or geographically), a video can be submitted. Please contact Lisa Thompson for video instructions.
• All auditions and submissions will conclude April 20, 2012 and FInalists will be notified no later than April 30, 2012.
• Phase III Finals will be similar to how the scholarship competition has been in the past - individual performance, two interviews, photo shoot, and other activities.

The National Cheerleader of the Year Scholarship Competition has concluded for 2011. Finalists are shown below. The 2011 NCYSC was amazing with over 180 nominees, finishing with 27 VERY STRONG FINALISTS. Cheer Ltd wishes each one much success in future endeavors. Thank you to the National Selection Committee, the Parents/Fans, and the Coaches/Administrators who supported and carried out another amazing year in the history of the scholarship competition.
