Scholastic teams are teams whose members attend the same school and cheer for a school athletic team or school related events. Routines may not exceed 2:30 minutes. Amount of music is not dictated by Cheer Ltd however, voice is a category to be scored (see Traditional Score Sheet for more information). All routines must follow the National Federation of High School Associations (NFHS) Spirit Safety Rules as approved by the NCSSE.

Recreation terms are non-school affiliated teams that cheer for an organized sport during the current full season and must not be formed solely for the purpose of competition. Age requirements are for the purpose of fair competition; all team members must fit into the age range. Age is determined as of August 31, 2009 for the upcoming competition season. Routines may not exceed 2:30 minutes. Amount of music is not dictated by Cheer Ltd however, voice is a category to be scored (see Traditional Score Sheet for more information). Teams entering the "Advanced" divisions will be allowed to perform the maximum skills allowed according to the NFHS rules. 2009-10 Individual Cheerleader Divisions
Individual divisions are separated for scholastic/recreation cheerleaders and all star cheerleaders. (Please refer the team divisions for more specific information defining scholastic, recreation and all stars.) All individual cheerleader routines may not exceed 1:30 minutes. Amount of music is not dictated by Cheer Ltd however, voice will most likely be an area considered when scoring the "Crowdleading" category for individuals (see International Cheerleader Score Sheet for more information).
